Greek Stocks: ATEbank, Hellenic Postbank, Public Power Corp

The ASE Index rose 5.14, or 0.4 percent, to 1,479.49 as of 1:43 p.m. in Athens, gaining for a third day.

The FTSE/ASE 20 Index of the country’s biggest companies gained 0.4 percent to 706.25, while the Cypriot General Index advanced 1.1 percent to 1,154.15.

The following stocks are among the most active in Athens trading today. Symbols are in parentheses.

Agricultural Bank of Greece (ATE GA) gained 21 percent to 81 cents, its biggest advance since June 6, 2005. Greek Deputy Finance Minister Filippos Sachinidis denied press reports that the government plans to merge state-controlled Agricultural Bank, Hellenic Postbank SA and the Loans and Deposits Fund. He said the state will participate in the Agricultural Bank’s share capital increase in line with its holding. Hellenic Postbank rose 3 percent to 3.09 euros.

Public Power Corp. SA (PPC GA) added 1.7 percent to 11.08 euros, gaining for a second day. Greece’s biggest electricity producer said it signed a memorandum of understanding with EDF Energies Nouvelles SA to develop renewable energy projects in Greece, according to an Athens bourse filing.
