Germany Aims to Attract Skilled Workers, Handelsblatt Says
Von der Leyen told the newspaper she’ll have a list of occupations drawn up that will be exempt from a rule requiring German employers to prove that they can’t find a candidate in the domestic labor market before hiring a foreign worker.
The new regulation may go into effect from the first quarter of 2011 and will benefit sectors including engineering, electrical engineering, vehicle manufacturing and doctors, von der Leyen said.
Some companies affected by a shortage of skilled labor are considering moving entire departments to other countries, von der Leyen said.
