Three Injured in Fire on Louisiana Delta Oil Work-over Rig
A fire broke out on Louisiana Delta Oil Co.’s Grosse Tete work-over rig in Bayou Perot, about 20 miles south of New Orleans, and three crewmembers were injured, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The fire was extinguished, and the injured workers were taken by boat to an ambulance and transported to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, according to an e-mailed report from the Coast Guard.
The extent of their injuries was unknown, Petty Officer Thomas Blue said in a telephone interview.
A work-over rig is used to repair or work on an existing well. The Marine Safety Unit, a Coast Guard division based at Houma, received a call from Louisiana Delta Oil about the fire at about 10 a.m. There were no reports of pollution related to the incident, the Coast Guard said.
Calls to Louisiana Delta Oil’s office in Lakeway, Texas, were not returned.
