Russian Weather to Be ‘Satisfactory’ for Grains, Forecaster Says

Weather conditions for winter grain plantings in Russia will be “satisfactory” and near average this month, the national forecaster said.

Frost-hit areas in northwestern and central Russia, and along the Volga River, mostly had sufficient snow to protect plantings, the Federal Hydrometeorological Center said on its website late yesterday.

Some plantings in the southeast of the Volga Federal District and in the northeast of the Southern Federal District are in “poor condition” because of this year’s drought, and satisfactory elsewhere, the forecaster said.
