Putin Criticizes U.S. WikiLeaks Statements on Russia, NYT Says

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said U.S. officials were “deeply misled,” as he commented on remarks about the country’s democracy revealed by the Web site WikiLeaks, according to the New York Times, which cited an interview to be aired on CNN’s Larry King Live.

A cable reported by the Internet site said “Russian democracy has disappeared,” and the government was “an oligarchy run by the security services. Putin also said Russia would build new nuclear weapons if the U.S. didn’t agree on integrating Russian and European missile defenses, the newspaper said.
