Nigerian Lawmakers Demand Sanusi Explain Comments, ThisDay Says

Nigeria’s parliament ordered Finance Minister Olusegun Aganga and central bank Governor Lamido Sanusi to explain their comments that lawmakers’ pay is crippling the economy, ThisDay said.

Sanusi said over the weekend that lawmakers are responsible for a quarter of the government’s recurrent expenditure, while Aganga said on Nov. 29 that the government may slash recurrent spending, according to the Lagos-based newspaper.

Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, who raised the issue in parliament, said that Sanusi’s allegations were false and misleading and calculated to bring the National Assembly into disrepute, ThisDay reported.
