Lufthansa’s Austrian Airlines Appoints Antinori as New Chief
Antinori, currently head of passenger sales at the main Lufthansa brand, will assume his new post on April 1, 2011, Vienna-based Austrian Airlines said in a statement today. The unit’s supervisory board has approved the appointment. The carrier’s two top current managers, Chief Operating Officer Peter Malanik and Chief Commercial Officer Andreas Bierwirth, will retain their posts.
“The challenge now is to open up and utilize new perspectives for a leaner and more efficient Austrian Airlines,” Stefan Lauer, Lufthansa’s board member in charge of subsidiary airline brands, said in the statement. Antinori “demonstrated his exceptional expertise in restructuring” during the parent company’s 2011 cost-cutting program, he said.
Lufthansa, Europe’s second-biggest airline, acquired Austrian Airlines last year and cut jobs by 16 percent to about 7,000 as of Sept. 30. Antinori, 49, joined Cologne, Germany- based Lufthansa in 1997 from Air France. He has been in his current post since January 2000.
