Japan Buys 141,590 Tons of Feed Barley in SBS Tender
Japanese feed makers and trading companies bought rights to import 141,590 metric tons of feed barley and 27,755 tons of feed wheat at a tender today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.
The breakdown of suppliers is not available as participants can decide where to purchase from after the tender, which allocates import volumes, according to Masafumi Otsuka at the ministry’s grain-trade division.
Today’s tender was held under the so-called simultaneous buy and sell system, in which buyers jointly bid for grain volumes of any origin and quality. The system was introduced to loosen government control over grain imports.
The next grain-import tender will be held on Dec. 8 for a maximum of 30,000 tons of feed wheat and 200,000 tons of feed barley, Otsuka said.
