BP Plc reported a breakdown at its Carson, California, refinery that resulted in the flaring of gases, according to a filing with state regulators.
The event occurred at 10:23 a.m. local time and is expected to last about 24 hours, according to the filing with the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
Scott Dean, a BP spokesman, didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
The plant can process 266,000 barrels of crude a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
