Bharti’s Nigerian Unit Slashes Phone Tariffs, BusinessDay Says

Bharti Airtel Ltd.’s Nigerian unit slashed its mobile-phone tariffs to 9 naira (6 cents) per minute from 35 naira, BusinessDay reported, citing people it didn’t identify.

The move, part of the company’s strategy to win more customers, may trigger a price war among competitors in the West African country, the Lagos-based newspaper said.

The company’s rivals include MTN Nigeria Communication Ltd., a unit of MTN Group Ltd., and Globacom Ltd.
