Discovery, Life and Naspers, Sallies: South African Stock Market Preview

The following stocks may rise or fall in South Africa. Symbols are in parentheses and prices are from the last close.

South Africa’s FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index fell for a second day, shedding 465.14, or 1.5 percent, to 30,716.24 in Johannesburg.

Discovery Holdings Ltd. (DSY SJ): The owner of Africa’s largest medical insurance administrator holds its annual general meeting. The shares fell 79 cents, or 2 percent, to 39.70 rand.

Life Healthcare Group Holdings Ltd. (LHC SJ): The hospital owner releases annual earnings. The shares fell 1 cent, or 0.1 percent, to 14.29 rand.

Naspers Ltd. (NPN SJ): Africa’s largest media company releases first-half earnings. The shares fell 6.95 rand, or 1.9 percent, to 365.03 rand.

Sallies Ltd. (SAL SJ): The fluorspar producer holds its annual general meeting. The shares were unchanged at 10 cents.

Zaptronix Ltd. (ZPT SJ): The information technology company expects earnings a share for the twelve months through August to be between 0.45 cents and 0.55 cents, from a loss of 0.68 cents a share a year earlier. The stock was unchanged at 2 cents.

Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:

Anglo American Plc (AAUK US) fell 2.4 percent to $22.18. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) added 0.7 percent to $46.87. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) fell 0.5 percent to $71.81. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) dropped 0.6 percent to $4.72. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) advanced almost 1 percent to $16.62. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) slipped 0.4 percent to $11.32. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) fell 0.7 percent to $28.95. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) gained 0.4 percent to $5.21. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) lost 0.6 percent to $45.70.
