Imperial Oil Says Strathcona Refinery Normal After Gases Flared

Imperial Oil Ltd. said operations are normal after flaring and venting steam at its Strathcona refinery in Edmonton, Alberta, since Nov. 26, according to a message left on a community hotline yesterday.

The refinery horn was sounded at about 3:25 p.m. local time to indicate a “sitewide all clear” from an earlier response, the company said on the recorded message left at 3:25 p.m. yesterday.

The Strathcona plant produces gasoline, diesel fuels, aviation fuels, propane, butane, lubricating oils, waxes, asphalt and heavy fuel oil, according to the company’s website. The refinery has a capacity of 187,000 barrels a day.
