CVR’s Coffeyville, Kansas, Refinery Reports Equipment Failure
Coffeyville Resources LLC, a refinery owned by CVR Energy Inc., reported an equipment malfunction at its Coffeyville refinery in Kansas, according to a filing with the National Response Center.
The malfunction caused a release of 125 pounds of hydrogen sulfide and 549 pounds of sulfur dioxide, according to the filing. The incident started at 5:47 p.m. local time yesterday.
“Technicians are working on the problem,” according to the filing.
U.S. refineries must notify the center if they release hazardous substances in excess of reportable quantities, according to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, commonly known as the Superfund.
Bloomberg News couldn’t immediately verify that the information in the NRC filing was accurate.
