HSBC Taps Lex Malas to Co-Head U.S. High-Yield Debt Origination
HSBC Securities Inc. has hired Keith “Lex” Malas, 44, to co-head leveraged and acquisition finance in North America.
Malas joined in late October from Gleacher & Co., where he led the debt capital markets origination department. Juanita Gutierrez, an HSBC spokeswoman, confirmed the move.
He will focus on originations and lead the New York-based division alongside Richard Jackson. Malas reports to Gerardo Mato and Frank Slevin, co-heads of global banking in the Americas in New York, and Oliver Duff, global head of leveraged and acquisition finance in London.
HSBC has underwritten 25 high-yield bond deals in the U.S. so far this year, to rank number 14, up from 16th place for all of last year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Before joining Gleacher in 2008, Malas worked on leveraged financings as a managing director at Deutsche Bank AG, according to a Sept. 15, 2008, statement from Gleacher, then known as Broadpoint Securities Group Inc. He has also worked at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and UBS AG.
Malas, contacted by e-mail, referred questions to Gutierrez.
