Sprint Nextel Won’t Consider Huawei, ZTE on Security, WSJ Says

Sprint Nextel Corp. won’t consider products from Chinese companies Huawei Technologies Ltd. and ZTE Corp. for a multi-billion contract because of U.S. government security concerns, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unidentified people.

Sprint and ZTE officials declined to comment, while Huawei had no immediate comment, according to the report. The two Chinese companies have both said their products pose no security threat, the WSJ said.

Sprint is now in talks with two finalists for the contract, Alcatel-Lucent SA and Samsung Electronics Co., according to the report.
