NEW YORK -- October 20, 2010

Susan Goldberg, editor of The Plain Dealer, will join Bloomberg News as an
Executive Editor to oversee the expansion of state and local government
reporting, Editor in Chief Matthew Winkler announced today.

Goldberg will be based in San Francisco. Her new role will reinforce
Bloomberg’s continued commitment to West Coast reporting, especially
California, as well as state and local government issues across the country.

As the Editor of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Goldberg led the news staff
and editorial/opinion operation and oversaw major strategic initiatives,
including significant watchdog reporting and ongoing work to transform the
newspaper into a digital information company. Under Goldberg’s leadership, The
Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest newspaper, was honored with four Pulitzer Prize
finalists, the American Society of News Editors Non-Deadline Writing Award and
the Headliner Award for Innovation, among others.

The move is part of a global growth strategy by Bloomberg News to increase
reporting resources in the U.S. and in emerging markets.

“Susan is a distinguished and accomplished editor who will lead the growth of
our state and municipal government reporting in the U.S.," Winkler said. “She
is uniquely qualified to bring transparency to an initiative where so much is
at stake for investors and taxpayers."

Prior to working at The Plain Dealer, Goldberg was Executive Editor and Vice
President of the San Jose Mercury News. She also has held editorial positions
at USA TODAY, the Detroit Free Press and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Goldberg earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with honors from Michigan
State University. She has served as a Pulitzer Prize juror and chair and is
secretary of the American Society of News Editors, scheduled to become ASNE
president in 2012. She also serves as co-chair on the Board of Visitors for
Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
