Giants Defeat Phillies 3-0, Take 2-1 Lead in National League Championship

Matt Cain allowed two hits in seven scoreless innings and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Phillies 3-0, taking a 2-1 lead over Philadelphia in the National League Chanmpionship Series.

Cody Ross, Aubrey Huff and Freddy Sanchez had run-scoring singles for the Giants, who are trying to end the Phillies’ two- year run as National League champions.

Cain outdueled Philadelphia’s Cole Hamels, who had won all four of his previous postseason road starts.

Game 4 in the best-of-seven series is set for tomorrow night in San Francisco, with Joe Blanton scheduled to start for the Phillies against 21-year-old Giants rookie Madison Bumgarner.
