Toulon Beats Ospreys in Heineken Cup Rugby; London Irish Top Munster
Paul Sackey’s late try gave Toulon a 19-14 win over Ospreys in their opening game in rugby’s Heinken Cup, while London Irish beat Munster 23-17.
Sackey touched down with four minutes remaining for the win in Pool 3 of Europe’s top club competition. Ryan Lamb kicked 15 points in London Irish’s home win over two-time champ Munster in the other Pool 3 match.
Cardiff Blues edged Edinburgh 18-17 in Pool 1; Leinster defeated Racing Metro 38-22 and Clermont Auvergne beat Saracens 25-10 in Pool 2; and Leicester Tigers topped Benetton Treviso 34-29 and Scarlets outscored Perpignan 43-34 in Pool 5.
Toulouse opens its European title defense tomorrow against London Wasps and Biarritz, last season’s runnerup, visits Bath. In yesterday’s opening matches, Glasgow Warriors beat Newport Gwent 21-13, Ulster routed Aironi 30-6 and Northampton Saints topped Castres 18-14.
