Sony Considering Outsourcing Options for Image Sensor Chips
Sony Corp. is considering outsourcing options for image sensor chips, said Tomio Takizawa, a Tokyo- based spokesman for the company.
“We’re considering various options of outsourcing as well as strengthening our own production capacity because of rising demand,” Takizawa said.
The Nikkei English News earlier today reported that Sony plans to hire Fujitsu Ltd. for the bulk of the production process for complementary metal-oxide semiconductor sensors used in digital cameras and camera phones. Sony isn’t the source of Nikkei’s report and doesn’t disclose the name of its contract manufacturers for the sensors, he said.
Naoki Akaboshi, a Tokyo-based spokesman for Fujitsu declined to comment.
