Mitsubishi Chemical to Buy Gear for LED Lighting Materials, Nikkei Reports

Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. will spend about 15 billion yen ($175 million) by March 2016 to add equipment to produce materials for light-emitting diode, or LED, lighting, the Nikkei newspaper reported.

The company will install a production line at its factory in Ibaragi prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, by fiscal 2012 to start mass production of gallium, nitride substrates for LED, the Nikkei said, without saying where it obtained the information.

Mitsubishi Chemical will also increase its production capacity for LED components to 100 million units a month from 40 million, according to the report.
