Chelsea defeated West Ham 3-1 to maintain its perfect start to the season in English soccer’s Premier League.
Michael Essien scored twice scored as Chelsea won its fourth straight game. The Blues have scored 17 goals and have allowed just one.
Second-place Arsenal kept pace with Chelsea by beating Bolton 4-1, while Everton scored twice in stoppage time to tie Manchester United 3-3.
Fulham beat Wolverhampton 2-1 and Blackpool was a 2-0 winner at Newcastle. The Manchester City-Blackburn, West Brom- Tottenham and Wigan-Sunderland games all ended 1-1.
Chelsea continued its early season dominance and handed last-place West Ham its fourth consecutive loss.
Essien scored after two minutes at Upton Park in east London by heading in Didier Drogba’s corner kick. The Blues doubled the lead in the 18th minute on Salomon Kalou’s goal after West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green was unable to hold Drogba’s free kick.
Essien made it 3-0 with seven minutes remaining before Scott Parker scored the first goal allowed by Chelsea this season in the 85th minute.
Laurent Koscielny, Marouane Chamakh, Alex Song and Carlos Vela had the goals as Arsenal stayed two points behind Chelsea. Johan Elmander scored for Bolton, which finished with 10 men after Gary Cahill received a red card in the 64th minute.
Fulham’s First Win
Steven Pienaar gave the host the lead in the 39th minute before Darren Fletcher, Nemanja Vidic and Dimitar Berbatov answered for United. Cahill then scored in the first of three added mintues and Arteta tied it a minute later.
Moussa Dembele’s second goal of the game off a free kick in the 90th minute gave Fulham its first win. Jelle van Damme scored for Wolverhampton, which had Christophe Berra sent off for a second yellow card which led to Dembele’s game winner.
Charlie Adam scored with a penalty and D.J. Campbell added a goal in the final minute as promoted Blackpool won at Newcastle to move into fourth place.
Antolin Alcaraz scored on an 87th-minute header to lift Wigan to a 1-1 tie with 10-man Sunderland, which had Lee Cattermole sent off in the 22nd minute. Asamoah Gyan scored for Sunderland.
Patrick Vieira’s second-half score gave Manchester City the home draw with Blackburn, while Chris Brunt’s goal earned West Brom the home tie against Tottenham.
Birmingham hosts Liverpool tomorrow, with Aston Villa at Stoke in two days.
