Iran will release Sarah Shourd, one of three U.S. hikers detained last year, the government announced.

The Iranian mission to the United Nations issued a statement saying Shourd will be freed “very soon.” In July, President Barack Obama called for the release of Shourd and her companions, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal.

Iran had accused them of illegal entry and spying after the three Americans crossed into Iran from Iraqi Kurdistan while hiking on July 31, 2009. Obama said that Shourd, Bauer and Fattal had never worked for the American government.
