Google Has Yet to Apply for China Web Mapping Service License, Daily Says
Chinese authorities have yet to receive an application from Google Inc. to offer internet mapping services in the nation, the China Daily reported today, citing Song Chaozhi, deputy director general of the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping.
Nokia Oyj is the only foreign company that has applied for the web mapping license, the Beijing-based newspaper cited Song as saying. Google has made some “initial contact” with the surveying and mapping bureau and is sending a senior executive to China this week to discuss the issue, the newspaper cited Song as saying.
