Brown University Grants Citigroup's Rhodes Professor-at-Large Appointment

Brown University, the Ivy League school in Providence, Rhode Island, said it granted former Citigroup Inc. Senior Vice Chairman William Rhodes a five-year appointment as professor-at-large.

Brown, which established the William R. Rhodes Center for International Economics and Finance in 2007, said on its website that Rhodes began the academic position July 1. Rhodes, 75, retired from Citigroup in April. He was senior international officer and helped the firm expand across Europe and into China.

“At a time when international economic turmoil dominates affairs among nations and commands the attention of scholars and financial executives, Bill Rhodes brings a wealth of experience and expertise,” the university’s president, Ruth Simmons, said in a statement.

Rhodes joined the bank after graduating from Brown University in 1957. He later headed a committee of international lenders that negotiated debt restructurings for countries including Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
