BP Starts Construction of Cedar Creek Wind Farm in Colorado
BP Plc, which has eight wind farms in the U.S., has started construction of the 250.8-megawatt Cedar Creek II project in Colorado.
The farm will be completed in June 2011 and will be able to power about 75,000 average American homes, BP Alternative Energy said yesterday in a statement on its Web site.
The London-based company is also building the 124.5- megawatt Goshen North wind park in Idaho, which will start this year. Next year, BP will build the 200-megawatt Golden Hills I wind farm in Oregon, the company said in the February issue of in-house publication Horizon
The Cedar Creek venture is 67 percent-owned by Infigen Energy, the Australian wind-power producer formerly known as Babcock & Brown Wind Partners. The farm will sell its electricity to Xcel Energy Inc.’s Public Service Co. of Colorado, BP said.
BP has more than 1,200 megawatts of gross wind power capacity in the U.S. One megawatt can supply about 800 average homes in the country, according to Energy Department data.
