Arca, Cap, Cresud, Embraer, JBS, Lan, Vale: Latin America Equity Preview
The following companies may have unusual price changes in Latin American trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and share prices reflect the previous close.
The MSCI Latin America Index fell 0.2 percent to 4,118.09. In Brazil, preferred shares usually are the most-traded class of stock.
Argentina
Cresud SACIF (CRES AF): The agroindustrial company posted a 49 percent increase in fiscal 2010 net profit to 185 million pesos. Cresud fell 0.4 percent to 5.68 pesos.
IRSA Inversiones y Representaciones SA (IRSA AF): The shopping center developer posted fiscal 2010 profit of 335 million pesos, a more than 100 percent increase from a year ago. IRSA fell 1.1 percent to 5.27 pesos.
Brazil
Empresa Brasiliera de Aeronautica SA (EMBR3 BS): The planemaker known as Embraer, will decide by year-end on future plans for the current E-195 single-aisle passenger jet, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing company spokesman Carlos Eduardo Camargo. The shares rose 2.8 percent to 11.55 reais.
JBS SA (JBSS3 BS): The world’s largest beef producer said Russia banned beef imports from four of its plants in Brazil, as well as a unit in Argentina and a unit in the U.S., according to a regulatory filing today. JBS lost 0.3 percent to 7.26 reais.
Vale SA (VALE3 BS): The world’s largest iron-ore producer said in a regulatory filing it priced $1 billion of bonds due in 2020 and an additional $750 million of bonds due 2039. Vale fell 1.7 percent to 47.19 reais.
Chile
Cap SA (CAP CC): Chile’s biggest steel and iron producer will start developing its Cerro Negro Norte iron project and an expansion of its Los Colorados operation this year. Funding will come from its cash reserves, which stood at $453 million at end June, and other resources including profits retained during the construction period, it said in a statement posted after the close of trading yesterday. Cap rose 5 percent to 23,515 pesos.
Lan Airlines SA (LAN CC): Latin America’s largest airline by market value reported that its load factor increased 1.3 points to 77.8 percent in August, while system passenger traffic for the month increased 13.7 percent as capacity rose 11.7 percent. Lan rose 1.4 percent to 14,440 pesos.
Mexico
Embotelladoras Arca SAB de CV (ARCA* MM): Mexico’s second- largest Coca-Cola bottler has agreed to sign a strategic alliance with Ecuador Bottling Company. Both companies will combine their operations in South America into a single entity in which Arca will own 75 percent. Arca rose 0.3 percent to 50.12 pesos.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste SAB (ASURB MM): The operator of airports in southern Mexico including Cancun said its operations may be “adversely” affected after Cia. Mexicana de Aviacion grounded its planes, according to a statement sent to Mexico’s stock exchange. ASUR rose 0.6 percent to 56.93 pesos.
Peru
Banco de Credito del Peru (CREDITC1 PE): Peru’s largest lender plans to sell $1 billion of bonds with a maturity of up to 10 years, Moody’s Investors Service said in a report yesterday. BCP rose 0.4 percent to 6.84 soles.
