Reports that China’s banking regulator will require banks to increase loan loss reserves will be negative for the nation’s mid-sized banks, according to Morgan Stanley.
The effects would be negative due to a combination of lower loan loss reserves as a percentage of total loans and lower profitability on pre-provision operating lines, Morgan Stanley said.
