Nomura Names Europe M&A Co-Heads as Mee Said to Leave for Bank of America

Nomura Holdings Inc. named Adrian Fisk and Andrew McNaught to run its European mergers and acquisitions advisory business after M&A banker Adrian Mee left for Bank of America Corp.

Mee, 47, in December will become head of international M&A at Bank of America, the bank said today in an internal note that was verified by spokesman John Yiannacopoulos. The appointments of Fisk, 44, and McNaught, 47, are effective immediately, said Patrick Meyer, a spokesman for Nomura, Japan’s largest securities firm.

Bank of America, the biggest U.S. bank by assets, has recruited investment bankers from Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc, Deutsche Bank AG and Citigroup Inc. this year as it rebuilds following departures stemming from its January 2009 acquisition of Merrill Lynch & Co. Gains from advising on deals and underwriting stocks and bonds helped the Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank report a profit of $6.3 billion in the first half, overcoming $3.6 billion in losses in its home-loan and insurance business.

Bank of America is “looking to aggressively increase our market share in M&A across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific,” Jeffrey Kaplan, head of global M&A and corporate finance, said in a note to employees today. The bank intends “to become a truly global leader in this space.”

Joining Meissner

Mee, who formerly ran European M&A at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., most recently held that same title at Nomura. He joins former Nomura banker Christian Meissner, who was hired by Bank of America in April as head of investment banking for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Mee advised International Power Plc, which last month was bought by GDF Suez SA, creating an electricity producer valued at about $30 billion. He started at Lehman in 2006 from Morgan Stanley. Mee studied law at Oxford University and worked at Merrill Lynch and SBC Warburg before joining Morgan Stanley in 1997.

Bank of America also named Philip Noblet as co-head of M&A for Europe, Middle East and Africa, reporting to Mee. Noblet joined Merrill Lynch in 2000 and most recently was head of industrials M&A for the same three regions.

Carlo Calabria has run international mergers and acquisitions and financial sponsors at Bank of America. Calabria wasn’t immediately available for comment. Officials from Bank of America declined to comment.
