Chi-X Global Names Americas Head Cohen as New CEO; Lowrey to Move to Unit

Chi-X Global Inc. said Tal Cohen, head of its Americas business, will become its new chief executive officer, replacing John Lowrey who moves to run its MarketPrizm unit.

Cohen has served as chief executive of Chi-X Canada since it started in 2008 and in 2009 became head of Chi-X Global’s Americas business, which include a Brazilian joint venture called Chi-FX Brazil, the company said in a Business Wire statement today. Chi-X Global is a unit of New York-based Instinet Inc., which in turn is owned by Nomura Holdings Inc.

Chi-X Global, which also operates alternative trading systems in Asia, named Lowrey CEO in March 2009. He joined from Nomura in London and was formerly Lehman Brothers Inc.’s Head of Electronic Trading in Europe. Ronald Gould, CEO of Chi-X Asia- Pacific, will now report to Cohen, Instinet spokesman Mark Dowd said today.

Instinet is the founder of and a shareholder in Chi-X Europe Ltd., which is now independently run and has its own management and board structure. Last year Chi-X Global proposed buying out minority owners of its Chi-X Europe unit for stock that values the business at $177.3 million, people familiar with the situation said at the time.
