Italy Political Crisis Won't Derail Budget Cut Plans, Tremonti Tells FT
Italy’s political crisis won’t derail planned fiscal consolidation, Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti said in a video interview with the Financial Times posted on the newspaper’s website.
“We’ve still got the votes in parliament,” Tremonti said. The governing People of Liberty party has “huge support in the country. So the policy we’ve got on fiscal consolidation, which is a serious policy, will continue.”
Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s coalition would win if new elections were held, Tremonti told the FT.
