Tropical Storm Earl Maintains Strength, Closes in on Canada's Nova Scotia
Tropical Storm Earl maintained its strength during the past three hours as it nears Canada’s province of Nova Scotia, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory.
As of 8 a.m. New York time, Earl was about 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of Cape Sable, Nova Scotia, and moving northeast at 30 miles per hour, the Miami-based center said in the advisory.
The storm is expected to move near or over Novia Scotia today, and the forecast calls for Earl to weaken gradually during the next two days, the center said.
Earl may produce as much as 3 inches (7 centimeters) of rainfall over eastern Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, with as much as 5 inches in isolated areas, the hurricane center said.
