Giants Acquire Rosenfels From Vikings as Backup for Quarterback Manning
The New York Giants acquired quarterback Sage Rosenfels from the Minnesota Vikings as a backup for Eli Manning.
The Giants also got Darius Reynaud from Minnesota for draft compensation, the National Football League team said on its website.
Rosenfels, 32, will fill the vacancy left by quarterback Jim Sorgi who was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, while Reynaud, 26, replaces punt returner Domenik Hixon who sustained a knee injury that required surgery during minicamp practice.
Rosenfels, a 10-year NFL veteran, has played in 32 regular season games with 12 starts. He completed 351 of 562 passes for 4,156 yards, 30 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
After Brett Favre took over calling the plays for Minnesota last year, Rosenfels didn’t play in the 2009 season. The Vikings acquired him from the Houston Texans. A fourth-round draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 2001, he also played with the Miami Dolphins.
Reynaud was fourth in the National Football Conference last season with a 10.3-yard average on 30 punt returns. A wide receiver at West Virginia University, he joined the Vikings as a rookie free agent in 2008, and switched to running back the following season.
