Vestas Is Preferred Partner for Turbines at Eldepasco Wind Farm in Belgium
Vestas Wind Systems A/S is the “preferred partner” for an 800 million-euro ($1.03 billion) offshore wind farm in Belgium, the Eldepasco joint venture of four companies said today.
The North Sea farm, 37 kilometers (23 miles) from Zeebrugge, will use 36 to 72 wind turbines, according to the project website. If talks are successful, it will be the first offshore project to use the 3-megawatt V112 turbine made by the Randers, Denmark-based company, Eldepasco said in a statement.
“The proposed alliance covers the delivery, installation, maintenance and the permanent monitoring of the wind turbines over a long period,” said the statement from the joint venture, made up from Electrawinds NV, Depret NV, Aspiravi NV and WE Power NV.
The project is predicted to produce 800,000 megawatt hours of power per year, according to the statement. That’s about 1 percent of Belgium’s current energy production and enough to provide electricity to 250,000 families, Eldepasco said.
Eldepasco said it’s also negotiating with other companies to build the foundations for the farm, and aims to have funding in place for the project by early next year, with construction to start in 2012.
