Hurricane Earl Passes North Carolina, Heads Toward New England

Sept. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Chris Hyde, a meteorologist at MDA EarthSat Weather, talks about Hurricane Earl, which passed off the Outer Banks of North Carolina and is heading toward New England and Nova Scotia. Hyde, speaking with Deirdre Bolton on Bloomberg Television's "InsideTrack," also discusses the outlook for the Atlantic hurricane season. (Source: Bloomberg)

Hurricane Earl, once a powerful Category 4 storm, weakened today to a Category 1 system with top winds of 85 mph as it moved north along the Eastern Seaboard, the National Hurricane Center said at 11 a.m. Miami time. The hurricane warning area for Massachusetts was reduced, although the alert remains in effect for Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island, the agency said.
