German Nuclear Plant Extension May Be Limited to Nine Years, HB Reports
The operating lives of nuclear power plants in Germany may be limited to nine years on constitutional grounds, the Handelsblatt newspaper reported today, citing unidentified government officials.
Extending the running time of nuclear plants even longer without having the consent of Germany’s upper house of parliament, which represents the 16 individual states, would risk getting rejected by Germany’s constitutional court, according to an assessment by German President Christian Wulff’s constitutional lawyer, the government officials said, according to Handelsblatt.
