Deutsche Telekom in Talks With Apple About IPhone Exclusivity in Germany
Deutsche Telekom AG said it’s in talks with Apple Inc. about its right to sell the iPhone in Germany following a report that the exclusivity agreement hasn’t been extended and may end in October.
“We are always talking to Apple about this,” Dirk Wende, a Deutsche Telekom spokesman, said via phone. He declined to comment on whether a decision has been made, adding that Deutsche Telekom wouldn’t be “concerned” if it lost the exclusive right to sell the device in its home country.
Citing unidentified people familiar with the matter, Dow Jones reported yesterday that Deutsche Telekom’s exclusive right to sell the device in Germany hasn’t been extended and may end in October. Vodafone Group Plc and Telefonica SA’s O2 unit will probably also get the right to sell the iPhone in Germany, the newswire said.
