Funai Electric to Increase LCD TV Output Capacity at Thai Plant by 54%

Funai Electric Co., a Japanese maker of audio-visual equipment, plans to increase production capacity for liquid-crystal display televisions by 54 percent at its factory in Thailand amid rising global demand.

The Osaka-based company aims to raise monthly capacity at its factory in Nakhon Ratchasima to 200,000 television sets per month, Naoyuki Takanaka, a company spokesman, said today in response to a Nikkei newspaper report. If market conditions improve further, the target could be reached as early as the end of March 2012, he said.

The company spent almost 1 billion yen ($12 million) in June to increase monthly production capacity to 130,000 units from 50,000 units at its Thai plant, according to the Nikkei report.
