French Pension Reform to Face Major Demonstrations Sept. 7, Woerth Says
French Labor Minister Eric Woerth predicted major demonstrations against his plan to overhaul France’s pension system, adding that he can envisage tweaking the bill though not ceding ground on lifting the retirement age.
“It’s almost in French genes” to protest, Woerth told journalists today in Paris. “We know there will be a lot of people on the streets on September 7,” he said. “The unions have made a major effort in rallying protestors.”
“We’ll be firm because this is about the national interest,” he added.
