Palocci, Meirelles to Be Part of Brazil Government Under Rousseff, IG Says
Antonio Palocci, Brazil’s former finance minister, may be appointed as Dilma Rousseff’s chief of staff should she win the October presidential election, said Guilherme Barros, a columnist at the IG news service, citing unidentified people close to the candidate.
Central bank President Henrique Meirelles would also hold a position in Rousseff’s government, Barros said. Luciano Coutinho, who heads the national development bank, is among the leading candidates for finance minister, Barros said.
Jose Sergio Gabrielli, chief executive officer of Petroleo Brasileiro SA, and Budget Minister Paulo Bernardo may also hold positions in a Rousseff-led government, according to Barros.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has advised Rousseff to keep Finance Minister Guido Mantega and Meirelles in their current positions at least during the beginning of her government, the Sao Paulo-based columnist said, citing unidentified people who held conversations with the president.
An official at Rousseff’s campaign, who declined to be identified because of internal policy, declined to comment.
