Discovery, Gold Reef and Imperial May Move: South African Equity Preview
The following is a list of companies whose shares may have unusual price changes in South Africa. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names and prices are from the last close.
South Africa’s FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index rose the most in more than three months, adding 725.39, or 2.7 percent, to 27,979.26 at the close in Johannesburg, for a third consecutive day of gains.
Discovery Holdings Ltd. (DSY SJ): The owner of South Africa’s largest medical-insurance administrator releases full- year earnings. The company’s stock rose 54 cents, or 1.5 percent, to 35.57 rand.
Gold Reef Resorts Ltd. (GDF SJ): The hotel and gaming company announces earnings. The company’s stock fell 19 cents, or 1.1 percent, to 17.10 rand.
Imperial Holdings Ltd. (IPL SJ): The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers publishes vehicle-sales data for August. Imperial, the largest owner of auto dealerships in South Africa, rose 3.69 rand, or 3.6 percent, to 105.79 rand.
Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:
Anglo American Plc (AAUKY US) jumped 5.6 percent to $18.80. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) slid 0.7 percent to $42.01. BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) rose 2.7 percent to $4.83. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) gained 1 percent to $4.08. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) fell 0.8 percent to $14.19. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) retreated 0.8 percent to $10.10. Impala Platinum Holdings (IMPUY US) jumped 4.7 percent to $24.50. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) increased 2.3 percent to $4.84. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) won 5.1 percent to $39.63.
