Cisco Has Talks With Skype Technologies’ Owners, N.Y. Post Says
Cisco Systems Inc. is interested in Skype Technologies SA and has had talks with the company’s owners to find out whether they might sell, the New York Post reported, citing an unidentified person close to the matter.
Skype filed last month to sell $100 million of shares in a U.S. initial public offering; its three main owners, Silver Lake Partners Ltd., Andreessen Horowitz and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, meant that to be “an advertisement for suitors to call,” the newspaper cited its informant as saying.
The trio bought a majority interest in Skype for $3.1 billion last November; an IPO would probably value the business at $5 billion, the Post said.
Silver Lake declined to comment and Cisco didn’t return calls, the newspaper added.
Skype provides software that enables users to make telephone and video calls over the Internet.
