Air France Begins Passenger Flights to Tokyo With Airbus A380 Superjumbo

Air France-KLM Group began passenger service today between Paris and Tokyo using Airbus SAS A380 superjumbos, the airline said.

Tokyo becomes the third destination served regularly with the A380 by Air France, after New York and Johannesburg, the Paris-based company said today in an e-mailed statement.

The airline is equipping the plane with 538 seats in three classes. Air France will initially fly three times weekly to Tokyo, its first A380 destination in Asia, before introducing daily services starting in October.

Airbus has now delivered 36 of the superjumbos since the first A380 handover in October 2007, Justin Dubon, a spokesman for the manufacturer, said today by phone. It has delivered 13 A380s this year: three to Air France, three to Deutsche Lufthansa AG; five to Emirates; one to Qantas Airways Ltd. and one to Singapore Airlines Ltd. Last year Airbus delivered 10 altogether.
