Uganda Ready to Send 10,000 Reserve Troops to Somalia, Daily Monitor Says
Uganda is ready to deploy as many as 10,000 reserve troops in Somalia once the U.S. provides the necessary funding, Daily Monitor reported, citing Aronda Nyakairima, the chief of defense forces.
The East African country wants the U.S. to provide military hardware, armored vehicles, helicopters and salaries for the reservists to be deployed in Somalia, the Kampala-based newspaper reported.
A final decision on the funding has yet to be made, it said. Uganda has more than 4,000 soldiers in the Somali capital of Mogadishu supporting the transitional federal government, according to the newspaper.
