SABMiller Namibia Invites Tenders for Building of Brewery in Okahandja
SABMiller Plc’s Namibian unit invited tenders for the construction and development of a brewery in the southern African country.
The plant will be built at Okahandja, 70 kilometers (44 miles) north of the capital, Windhoek, the company said in a statement published in the Windhoek Observer newspaper today. A pre-qualification phase is being held to establish a list of suitable companies, it said.
“In the final selection, Namibian-owned companies, or those with a strong base in Namibia, will be given preference, provided they are competitive,” according to the statement.
Construction work will start in September or October and the brewery will be commissioned in late 2011, the company said. The plant is expected to cost 250 million Namibian dollars ($34.2 million) to set up.
SABMiller is the world’s second-biggest brewer.
