Kenya Fertilizer Imports Ease Concern Over Prices, Business Daily Reports
Kenya will import 70,000 metric tons of fertilizer this week, easing concern among farmers about a surge in prices for the chemicals ahead of the October planting season, Business Daily reported.
The consignment will cover a shortfall in the East African country, which uses about 200,000 tons of fertilizer in the short-rains planting season, the Nairobi-based newspaper said, citing Eustace Muriuki, chairman of the Fertilizer Association of Kenya.
Kenya’s government has withdrawn a subsidy aimed at cushioning farmers against the impact of higher fertilizer prices, the newspaper said.
