UMP Hasn't Had Talks With Paris City Hall on Jobs Compensation, JDD Says
France’s ruling Union for a Popular Movement party hasn’t held talks with the City of Paris over paying compensation for the employment of unnecessary workers during former President Jacques Chirac’s tenure as mayor, the Journal du Dimanche reported, citing the UMP’s Xavier Bertrand.
“Contacts have only taken place between Paris City Hall and Jacques Chirac’s lawyers,” the weekly newspaper said, quoting Bertrand, the party’s secretary-general. Bertrand said he hadn’t held discussions with Mayor Bertrand Delanoe on the matter, according to the newspaper.
Chirac faces trial over allegations he handed out City Hall job contracts for work done for the party while he was mayor. Chirac has denied any wrongdoing.
