Merkel Says Sarrazin's Comments on Immigration in Germany `Unacceptable'

Chancellor Angela Merkel said that comments about Jews and immigrants to Germany made by Bundesbank board member Thilo Sarrazin are “unacceptable.”

Sarrazin recently published a book whose title translates as “Germany Eliminates Itself,” which makes a case against immigrant groups in the country and their impact on society. He told today’s Welt-am-Sonntag newspaper that “all Jews share a particular gene, Basques have a particular gene, that differentiate them from others.”

Merkel, in an interview with ARD television in Berlin today, said that she was sure the Bundesbank will discuss Sarrazin’s comments. They are divisive and hinder the debate on immigration to Germany, she said.
