Japan Beats Hawaii 4-1 to Win Little League Baseball World Series Title

Japan beat Waipahu, Hawaii, 4-1 to win Little League baseball’s World Series, ending a run of five straight championships for U.S. teams.

Konan Tomori hit a home run and drove in three runs as the Edogawa Minami All-Stars from Tokyo gave Japan its first title since 2003. Japan led 2-1 when Tomori hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The last team from outside the U.S. to win the Little League World Series for 11- and 12-year-olds was Willemstad, Curacao, in 2004.

Waipahu, which also won the Little League title in 2008, was seeking to become the third Hawaiian champion in the past six years.
