Zimbabwe Police Evict 250 People in Harare and Torch Homes, Amnesty Says
Armed police in Zimbabwe forcibly moved about 250 people from temporary shelters in Harare’s affluent Gunn Hill suburb, Amnesty International said.
Police raided the informal settlement at about 3 a.m. on Aug. 25 using dogs to evict the squatters, the group said in an e-mailed statement from London today. The camps were set on fire without giving settlers time to remove their possessions, according to the statement.
Police in Harare didn’t immediately answer telephone calls placed late today.
