Nordic Stocks: EpiCept, Getinge, Oriflame, Swedbank, Alk-Abello Are Active

The Stoxx Nordic 30 Index, the benchmark index for the region, rose 0.5 percent to 6,520.06 at 2:06 p.m. in Stockholm, paring three days of losses.

The OMX Stockholm 30 Index increased 0.4 percent and the OMX Helsinki 25 Index gained 0.3 percent. Norway’s OBX Index advanced 0.6 percent and the OMX Copenhagen 20 Index added 0.4 percent.

The following companies’ shares were among the most active in Nordic markets today. Symbols are in parentheses.

Alk-Abello A/S (ALKB DC) rose 3.5 percent to 326 kroner, paring three days of declines. The world’s largest allergy vaccine maker raised its full-year forecast.

EpiCept Corp. (EPCT SS) plummeted 41 percent to 4.95 kronor, the stock’s biggest decline since at least 2006. The Tarrytown, New York-based pharmaceutical company, which is listed on the Stockholm stock exchange, said it received a refusal to file letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The agency recommended that EpiCept carry out further studies before it reapplies for permission to use its Ceplene drug to treat acute myeloid leukemia patients.

Getinge AB (GETIB SS) retreated 0.6 percent to 159.40 kronor, the shares’ second straight loss. The world’s largest maker of surgical workstations said it has received a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration about the manufacturing of vascular grafts at its production unit in Wayne, New Jersey.

Kongsberg Automotive ASA (KOA NO) rose 3.9 percent to 3.70 kroner, paring two days of losses. The Norwegian maker of automobile and truck parts won a 38 million-euro ($48.3 million) contract with Chrysler Group LLC.

Oriflame Cosmetics AB (ORI SS) tumbled 3.2 percent to 385.80 kronor, the stock’s lowest price since June 8. The Swedish maker of cosmetics said Iranian authorities closed down its operations in Tehran and detained three members of staff and two sales consultants without explaining why.

A permanent closure in Iran may lead to extraordinary costs of 10 million euros this year, Oriflame said. The company forecast that it will have an operating margin of about 12 percent this year, compared with a prior forecast of more than 12 percent.

Swedbank AB (SWEDA SS) gained 2.8 percent to 82.55 kronor, its largest increase since Aug. 2. Cevian Capital AB said it now owns 4.64 percent of the shares of Stockholm-based Swedbank, the largest bank in the Baltic states, through its Cevian Capital II fund and entities controlled by U.S. investor Carl Icahn.
